A former student was arrested in the stabbing of three staff members Monday morning at Switzer Learning Center in Torrance, police said
Video showed several law enforcement patrol SUVs, ambulances and at least one armored SWAT vehicle at the school on Amapola Court south of Del Amo Boulevard and west of Van Ness Avenue. Torrance police asked people to stay clear of the area near Amapola Avenue and 205th Street due to police activity.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said personnel were requested for a possible arson-explosives investigation. After the arrest, the former student told authorities he placed two pipe bombs in the area, Torrance police said.
NBCLA has reached out to the learning center, sheriff’s department and Torrance police for more details.
The non-public school and behavioral health center offers elementary, middle and high school programs for children and young adults with special needs.
