
A collision between a Metro train and an SUV injured at least nine people, and two were taken to a hospital in South Los Angeles on Thursday, authorities said.
Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the crash in Central-Alameda around 5:40 p.m. at 5427 S Long Beach Ave. Upon arrival, crews began to extricate a 48-year-old male driver from an SUV. In total, nine patients were evaluated.
Four people, including the male driver, were transported with minor injuries. The remaining five declined transport, said the LAFD.
The train’s driver and the female patient were assessed for minor complaints.
Firefighters also checked the train to ensure there were no additional injuries among passengers.
Traffic in the area is expected to be impacted for an extended period.
Motorists are advised to avoid the intersection and seek alternate routes.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
