An Alhambra elementary school was forced to go into lockdown on Tuesday as officers searched for a man wanted in connection with a stabbing.

Alhambra police responded to a call of a man stabbed near the area of Spruce Street and Atlantic Boulevard. Officers combed the streets north of Garfield Elementary School for the person wanted in connection with the assault.

The lockdown at the school was ordered just before students were slated to be released for the day. One by one, however, they’ve been released to their parents and guardians.

NewsChopper4 was over the scene, where officers from the Alhambra and San Marino Police Departments were seen on the search with firearms drawn. The suspect was described as a man wearing all black clothing.

The stabbing victim was hospitalized and is described as being in stable condition.
