Investigators Monday surrounded an elementary school in Anaheim after an officer fired a weapon against a suspect, the Anaheim Police Department said.
The shooting happened at 12:45 p.m. on W. Falmouth Avenue near N. Columbine Street as the officer was in a precarious situation with the suspect. Anaheim police did not say why the suspect was wanted and did not elaborate the circumstances around the shooting.
The shooting, Anaheim police reassured, had nothing to do with the school, but it happened outside John Marshal Elementary school.
One suspect was in custody after being taken to a hospital.
There was no threat to the school or the community. The school was also not on lockdown.
Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area of W. Falmouth Avenue and N. Columbine Street as authorities were expected to conduct the investigation for hours.
