An Anaheim school district is teaming up local laundromats to provide credits for students in need so they can have access to clean clothes.

The Anaheim Union High School District’s (AUHSD) board members unanimously approved the partnership as part of the district’s effort to support “the whole student,” it said in a post online. “The whole student” refers to supporting children’s needs outside their studies by providing them with resources so they can focus on their academics.

The latest resource of focus for the district is clean clothing, which will be accessible as the district works with Superior Laundry and LaundryUp.

“They want to make sure their students’ basic needs are being met before they go into the classroom,” said Patrick Lee, who co-owns Superior Laundry.

In teaming up with AUHSD, Lee and his family business are providing nearly $9,000 worth of vouches to students and their families so they can access free laundry services at his two Anaheim laundry facilities.

“I just think with so many families juggling multiple jobs, rising costs, this program really helps eliminate one area of stress for families,” Lee said.

Students who are in need of help will be given a laundry card loaded with credits, laundry detergent and fabric softener.

“We just want to be a good neighbor in the community and our business model is ‘do well by doing good,’” said Howard Lee, who co-owns Superior Laundry. “Hopefully, we can do more with other districts and so on and so forth.”

The Lee family said it’s also teaming up with school district officials to make free laundry drop-off and pick-up services to available at some Anaheim high schools.
