A 23-year-old Anaheim woman accused of killing and decapitating her boyfriend was arrested in Mexico and returned to the United States to face murder charges in Orange County.
Alyssa Marie Lira was charged with one felony count of murder and one felony enhancement of personally using a weapon in the death of her boyfriend of two months, 55-year-old Enrique Gonzalez-Carbajal. His decapitated body was discovered Aug. 25 inside Lira’s home, according to investigators.
Authorities said they believe Lira fled to Mexico immediately after the killing, where she was arrested Jan. 22. She faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life if convicted on all counts.
Details about what led to her arrest were not immediately available, but it came after five months of investigations by Anaheim Police homicide detectives who worked with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office Organized Crime Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Orange County Resident Agency, the FBI’s Assistant Legal Attachés in Mexico, and Mexican authorities.
Arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 13. It was not immediately clear whether Lira has an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
