Day laborers are calling for Home Depot to remove noise machines from a parking lot at a Cypress Park location that the store says is part of an effort to prevent overnight parking at the business north of downtown Los Angeles.

The machines have been installed at the light poles and play a high-pitched tone.

Some say the noise gives them headaches and nausea. Day laborer advocates say the noise is meant to keep them from looking for work at the store.

The store sent a statement and photos to NBC4, saying that the noise is part of several initiatives they use to keep their store safe and prevent illegal overnight parking. However, the video shows the noise playing during the day.

The photos appear to show RVs, cars and trash in the parking lot.

According to Home Depot, the Cypress Park location is the only one in the area that is using these types of machines and they saw a noticeable difference since the machines were installed.
