An Hacienda Heights man was charged Wednesday with allegedly hosting dog fights and illegally breeding, training, and exhibiting dogs for the use of fighting, authorities said.

Raymond Nuñez, 53, was arrested this morning and later charged at the downtown Los Angeles federal courthouse. Along with the animal-fighting venture charges, he was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Federal agents executed a search warrant at Nuñez’s home on Tuesday and seized an AK-47 and 10 firearms that were stored in a safe inside a master bedroom, according to the complaint. Here, agents also recovered an emaciated pit bull that was bleeding and chained to a cable in the yard, and another was found with scars in a bloody cage.

Federal agents also found multiple dog treadmills, a rope with a scale for weighing dogs, a skin stapler, and syringes, court documents showed.

According to court documents, from at least December 2025 to February 2026, Nuñez illegally exhibited, bred, and trained dogs for the purpose of fighting at this home in Hacienda Heights. Allegedly, he also possessed firearms despite a prior felony conviction in 1991 for unlawful taking of a vehicle.

If convicted, Nuñez could face a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

Investigating this case are the FBI and the United States Marshal.
