A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of DUI in a crash Wednesday that injured members of a high school track and field team on a training run in Anaheim.
Anaheim resident Anthony Alva-Palafox was hospitalized and arrested after the crash just before 3 p.m. at Harbor Boulevard and North Street. Members of the Anaheim High School track and field team were waiting to cross the street when they were struck by an orange Toyota Corolla.
The car came to a stop facing a wall in front of the yard of a home.
“The preliminary investigation has revealed that an orange Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Harbor Blvd at North St on a green light when the driver veered off the roadway and struck several pedestrians who were standing on the southwest corner,” Anaheim police said in a statement.
Eight people were injured, and four of the seven hospitalized victims were released from the hospital by Thursday morning.
Anaheim High School said Thursday morning that seven students were involved in the crash, but non of their injuries are considered life-threatening. The student-athletes ranged in age from 16 to 17 years old. They were accompanied by their coach on the training run a few blocks from campus.
