LA County Fire officials were investigating a land movement incident Saturday near oceanfront homes in Rancho Palos Verdes.
The movement was reported around 8:21 p.m. in the 40 block of Marguerite Drive, according to LA County Fire.
A 300 to 400-foot section of the coastal bluff moved about 50 to 60 feet, affecting 4 residents, according to LA County Fire Battalion Chief Emmanuel Samang.
“At this point, there’s no structural damage or threat immediately,” said Samang. “We’ll need to follow up on that with the proper geologists and experts in the soils to make sure that the movement is stopped.”
Although there were no mandatory evacuations, some concerned homeowners left voluntarily, Samang said.
After worsening land movement threatened the structures of houses as well as gas and electricity infrastructure in the Rancho Palos Verdes area, SoCalGas cut the gas service to some homes last July while relocating its pipeline and accelerating leak inspection intervals.
