
A firefighter died Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency during house fire in the Riverside County community of Perris, Cal Fire said
Cal Fire said the medical emergency was not related to the fire, reported at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 31300 block of Marcuchio Road. A cause of the fire was not immediately available.
In a statement, Cal Fire said fire apparatus engineer Danny Cook received immediate life-saving treatment at the scene and was transported to a hospital, where he died.
“Engineer Cook’s passing is a devastating loss to our department, the fire service, and the community he served with dedication and professionalism,” Cal Fire said in a statement. “His commitment to duty and service will not be forgotten.”
Two people suffered minor injuries, Cal Fire said.
