Grammy-winning songwriter and producer James Fauntleroy is launching a new space for local creatives to gather in the Crenshaw district.

A reception was held on Tuesday to celebrate construction on what will be known as Creators @ Laboratory, a content production hub that will help empower artists and other creatives. Fauntleroy, who hails from Inglewood, said he’s creating this project to help locals have access to tools to help them execute their work.

“I always thought how much further could a dreamer go with help?” he said. “What if the odds were changed to actually assist them? This is the changing of the odds.”

The new production hub, which is slated to open in 2026, will serve as a physical space for entrepreneurs who are particularly focused on the arts and media.

“We want to teach you how to formalize your business, learn how to do the EIN, create and LLC, a dedicated shelf space,” Fauntleroy said.

The event was attended by LA Mayor Karen Bass, representatives of the HANDY Foundation and other local community members.

“He has brought together the public sector, the private sector, colleagues of his,” Bass said. “That’s what it takes to build community, and I’m just very proud.”
