Burbank police arrested a man accused of stealing toys that had been donated for a toy drive inside the lobby of a business building, officials said Monday.
Officers initially responded to the business last week on N. Hollywood Way and Vanowen Street after receiving a call about missing toys that had been inside a donation box. The items, such as board games and dolls, were collected for a Toys-for-Tots drive, police said.
The employees at the building told police that the surveillance video footage showed a food delivery driver, leaving with some of the toys from the donation box on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
“The suspect was then seen concealing additional toys in the bag before leaving the building and driving away,” Burbank police said in a statement.
The suspected thief, who was later identified as 43-year-old Sedrak Khachatrian of Burbank, was arrested and booked for burglary.
When police served a search warrant at Khachatrian’s apartment, they recovered toys that appeared to be from the donation bin, including puzzles, a Hot Wheel set and Disney princess dolls.
Many of the recovered toys were returned to the business, police said.
