
A ground stop was ordered Monday for some departures to Los Angeles International Airport due to thunderstorms in the region.
The ground stop was extended to 4:45 p.m., according to the FAA. It was not immediately clear how many arriving flights were affected.
The ground stops were for airports within three air route traffic control zones, including Denver, Salt Lake and Albuquerque.
Some departures to Long Beach Airport and John Wayne Airport in Orange County also were under a brief ground stop, according to the FAA website.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued Monday afternoon for parts of Riverside and northern Los Angeles counties. The warnings were expected to expire around 3:30 p.m.
Part of San Bernardino County was under a flash flood warning. That warning was in the Twentynine Palms area.
The threat of monsoonal thunderstorms will linger through Tuesday, mainly inland.
