Dozens of families returned to the historic Altadena Town and Country Club Sunday for a celebration of resilience and the chance to reconnect with their neighbors.
Nearly nine months after the Eaton fire forced them to flee their community, the people of Altadena are back on common ground.
“It’s nice to see everyone who hasn’t seen us in a very long time,” said 9-year-old Olivia.
The Altadena Town and Country Club founded in 1910, celebrated its grand re-opening months ahead of schedule after its historic clubhouse was destroyed by flames in January.
“Of course there’s more work ahead and construction but one thing is certain, this club is here to stay,” said Judy Chu.
More than 700 club members and their families gathered to get a first look a the renovated pool and tennis courts.
“Yeah, we were out of the house for about 2 months. We live about 4 blocks south of here, so we’re one of the small communities around Altadena that actually did survive,” said one of the club members.
Despite the impact, it seems these neighbors share the same vision for the outlook ahead, one full of hope and determination to see their streets come alive once again.
“Before I got here, I rode around Altadena, I’ve seen homes being rebuilt, foundations being poured,” said LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “Today is a celebration. It’s a celebration of hope and restoration and I’m in for the long haul to get this done.”
