
Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass announced that she is endorsing former LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for California governor.
The pool of democrats is filled with big names in California and national politics.
Katie Porter, Xavier Becerra and Tony Thurmond to name a few.
Now, LA Mayor Karen Bass is throwing her support behind Villaraigosa, saying they’ve worked together their entire adult lives.
Mayor Bass released a statement, saying in part:
“I have seen up close the impact he has made not just for our city but for our entire state.” Adding, “that’s why i’m supporting Antonio for governor — a leader who can unite our state with our shared values, build coalitions to lift people up for the common good, and ensure that basics like high-quality schools, safe neighborhoods, affordable homes, and good-paying job opportunities are available and accessible for all californians.”
The two have a long history. Villaraigosa endorsed her for mayor in 2021.
The news of this endorsement comes after Villaraigosa’s campaign was teasing a big announcement at 9:30 this morning.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Mayor Bass is a fierce advocate for working families, children, seniors, and underserved communities and a tireless champion for social and economic justice and for the people of Los Angeles,” Villaraigosa said in a statement.
Adding that “I greatly appreciate her support in this campaign and look forward to collaborating with Mayor Bass for the health, safety, and betterment of Angelenos and all Californians.”
