Prosecutors in Los Angeles are now reviewing the case of actor Kiefer Sutherland, who is accused of assaulting a ride-share driver in the Hollywood area earlier this month, the LA County District Attorney’s Office exclusively told NBC4 Investigates Friday.

The district attorney’s office said it has been presented with the case for potential criminal charges against the “24” actor.

It was not immediately clear how long it will take the DA’s office to complete the review and announced the decision.

Sutherland is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Feb. 2.

The 59-year-old actor was arrested after officers responded to a radio call about an assault involving a ride-share driver near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. The suspect, later identified as Sutherland, is accused of assaulting the driver after entering the vehicle, the LAPD said.

The driver did not require medical treatment, police said.

Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal threats, the agency said.

Jail records indicated Sutherland was released from custody a few hours later on a $50,000 bond.

NBCLA has reached out to Sutherland’s representatives for comment.

The British-born Canadian actor is best known for his longtime portrayal of federal agent Jack Bauer on the Fox TV ticking-time-bomb thriller “24,” which earned him an Emmy and a Golden Globe award. His long list of credits also includes roles in “Stand by Me,” “The Lost Boys,” “Flatliners” and “A Few Good Men.”
