
A Jurupa Valley woman was stabbed in a random attack while visiting New York City, police said Friday.
The 38-year-old Southern California woman was stabbed in the back twice with a sharp object at around 3 p.m. Thursday as she was changing her child’s diaper inside a bathroom at Macy’s flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan.
Police told NBC New York that after the victim was stabbed, she turned around and wrestled with the suspect on the ground, causing more cuts to her arm.
Law enforcement sources told NBC Los Angeles exclusively that the victim and her significant other are employees of the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
The Jurupa Valley woman was taken to a hospital and treated. She’s expected to survive, and her baby girl is OK, according to NBC New York.
The LA County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to NBCLA that the victim was indeed its employee, adding the department was notified by the New York Police Department about the incident.
The suspect, who was later identified as a 43-year-old woman from Massachusetts, was arrested for attempted murder, assault and weapon possession, according to New York police.
