Firefighters hoisted a woman to safety Friday after she was stuck in a section of the rain-swollen Tujunga Wash in Arleta.
LAFD crews responded at about 8 a.m. to the rapidly flowing wash, a 13-mile long tributary of the Los Angeles River channel, after a report of a woman in the concrete channel near Branford Street in the San Fernando Valley community. Los Angeles’ system of flood control channels is full of water following two days of rain, including daily rainfall records in some communities.
The woman was carried downstream to near Lankershim Boulevard, where the LAFD used a helicopter to hoist the woman from the water.
The woman suffered minor injuries.
Flash flood warnings expired early Friday in Los Angeles. Flood watches and advisories remain in effect.
