
The first wave of a potentially dangerous atmospheric river storm brought intense downpours at times in Los Angeles County Wednesday, causing flooding and mudflows in the burn scars and low-lying areas.
All lanes along the 5 Freeway at the Lankershim exit in Sun Valley were heavily flooded, forcing crews to shut them down and offering detours to drivers. Some of the lanes began to reopen at around 5:20 p.m.
Some Altadena roadways saw mud and debris flows, but the areas affected by the Palisades Fire mostly avoided major issues.
In Palmdale, a group of people were rescued after their car was trapped in floodwaters.
The heaviest rain happened during the morning hours.
The next round of storm was expected to arrive on Thursday, Christmas Day.
