A man turned in a mysterious package to authorities Thursday after discovering it contained a large amount of marijuana.

The package was shipped to his pet grooming business, the Collar Club, in the 8400 block of West Hollywood.

“Why would a members only social club for dog owners get two and a half pounds of weed?” said Paul Leonard, owner of the Collar Club. “It was sent from our store three months ago….and it spent three months covering the globe, coming right back here.”

Deputies with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department were called to the business and took possession of the contents. It’s unclear how much marijuana was inside the package.

“I thought it was a joke at first,” said Leonard. “We had clients in our store, we had dogs getting groomed, we had clients getting coffee, we had people just sitting out there in our members-only dog parks and it was kind of embarrassing.”

Leonard says authorities estimated the contents to be worth about $10,000.

Drug dealers often order or ship drugs to random addresses and try to intercept the delivery before the person at the address finds it, narcotics investigators tell NBCLA.

Detectives are still investigating to determine where the package was sent from.
