Attorneys for the San Bernardino family whose car was struck by bullets fired by federal agents last week released a new video Friday, claiming the footage challenges federal authorities’ account of the confrontation.

The footage captured by surveillance cameras outside the vehicle shows the driver, Francisco Longoria, pulling away as armed individuals surrounded his truck. The family attorneys argued the video proves Longoria was not trying to run over officers, unlike what the Department of Homeland Security had claimed.

“We don’t know who these masked individuals actually were, who they work for, because if you look at the videos we provided, there’s no single identifying mark of the agency they work for,” Jason Sanchez, attorney for the family, said at a press conference.

In a cellphone video captured from the incident on Saturday inside the truck, agents are seen breaking a window before gunfire erupts as Longoria drives off.

Homeland security officials have said officers opened fire because Longoria, an undocumented immigrant, drove directly at them, striking two agents with his truck.

Video shot by the family showed the agents shattering the car windows. Amber Frias reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025.

Longoria’s family disputes that account, saying the officers never identified themselves and that Francisco was attempting to protect his wife and children.

The attorneys said they have shared videos to local, county and state officials and are requesting an independent investigation into the shooting.

“It’s about the community,” family attorney Robbie Munoz said. “It’s about making sure things like this don’t happen again in the future, putting people in harm’s way and opening fire on civilians.”
