Planned Parenthood will receive $90 million from the state of California after the reproductive health care provider and its affiliates lost federal funding from the Trump administration last year.

Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 106 Wednesday, granting the one-time emergency funds to Planned Parenthood and its clinics, saying the money is needed to “ensure people don’t lose access to the range of services.”

“While the Trump Administration relentlessly puts women’s health and safety at risk, California’s latest investments support Planned Parenthood and protect access to critical resources for women and families across the state,” Newsom said.

The funding will keep the doors open at over 100 clinics across the state, so they can continue to provide sexual and reproductive health care services. California has provided $145 million to Planned Parenthood since last fall, the governor’s office said.

“The Planned Parenthood affiliates in California are grateful to our state leaders for continuing to protect Californians’ constitutional right to reproductive freedom by ensuring patients from Eureka to El Centro can continue to access the essential care they need and deserve, no matter what.” Jodi Hicks, CEO and President of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California

Last March, the Trump administration said it’s withholding Title X federal family-planning funds from Planned Parenthood and other provides for “possible violations” of federal grant rules, such as diversity and inclusion efforts. The federal funding would have supported non-abortion services, such as cancer screenings and the testing of sexually transmitted infections.

Then in July, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act was passed with a provision that bars Medicaid reimbursements to certain nonprofits that provide abortion services.

After Planned Parenthood and several states sued the Trump administration for the defunding efforts, litigation continues.
