A man was arrested in connection with multiple online threats targeting the TikTok headquarters in Culver City, authorities announced Saturday.
Hawthorne resident Joseph Mayuyo, 33, is accused of sending a series of online threats across multiple social media platforms, according to Culver City investigators.
Representatives of the social media giant reported receiving an additional online threat Friday through a social media platform, where Mayuyo allegedly threatened the company’s headquarters.
The building was evacuated on Friday out of an abundance of caution, police said.
Multiple law enforcement teams conducted an investigation at Mayuyo’s residence, where the suspect made additional threats online, stating that he would not be taken alive if officers attempted to arrest him.
After obtaining an arrest and search warrant at around 10:10 p.m., a negotiation team was able to get Mayuyo out of his residence and he was taken into custody.
“The arrest underscores the department’s unwavering commitment to thoroughly investigating threats and prioritizing the safety of our community and local businesses,” wrote Culver City police in a statement Saturday.
Mayuyo was booked into the Culver City Police Department Jail on charges of criminal threats.
