After a 24-year-old pregnant woman was killed in a suspected DUI crash in Fullerton over the weekend, her family said Monday that it’s devastated by her death and the death of her unborn baby.

Bianca Esquivel’s sister, Viri, said that the expectant mom and her boyfriend were returning home from an In-N-Out to satisfy her late-night craving when they were struck by a suspected DUI driver.

“We weren’t expecting to lose Bianca at such an early age,” the grief-stricken sister said while crying. “The baby that was in her womb didn’t have the opportunity to even come to life. That person took that opportunity from that little angel.”

Daniel Ramos, 24, of Riverside, was arrested for felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter after police noticed “objective signs and symptoms of impairment” at the crash site.

While speaking to the media, the victim’s sister held a tiny pair of shoes that Esquivel had bought for her unborn baby ahead of a planned gender reveal party.

Police said the crash happened at around 12:10 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of North Anaheim Boulevard and state Route 91 when a Lexus sedan, driven by Ramos, ran a red light and plowed into a Toyota sedan driven by Equivel’s boyfriend, Oscar.

The dead woman’s boyfriend was awaiting surgery for a broken arm, the sister said.

The couple also has a 4-year-old boy, who keep asking for his mom.

“My sister was very excited for that second child,” Viri Esquivel said. “She leaves behind a 4-year-old, and I personally don’t know how to answer where’s my mommy because his mommy isn’t coming back.”

Police said the suspected DUI driver could face additional charges because the victim was pregnant.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information related to it was encouraged to call the Anaheim Police Department at 714-765-1900.
