
Police in Long Beach are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a cyclist on Saturday.
Officers were called to the intersection of East 2nd Street and Redondo Avenue at 4:48 p.m. for a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist. At the scene, officers found a bystander trying to help the victim. The victim was then taken to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.
According to the investigation, the victim was traveling southbound on Redondo Avenue on bicycle when she entered the intersection with East 2nd Street. A 2025 gray Hyundai Sonata entered the intersection at a high speed, ran a stop sign and struck the cyclist.
Long Beach police say speed is a factor in the crash.
Authorities did not release the name of the victim pending family notification.
