  • For the first time, Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley will host Olympic events.

More than 40 venues will host 36 sports when the Olympics return to Los Angeles for a third time in 2028.

LA 2028 will be the first Olympics in 80 years with no newly built permanent venues, instead relying on the region’s existing stadiums and other sites. They include locations that echo with history, like the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Explosion Park and Pasadena’s scenic Rose Bowl, and relative newcomers to Los Angeles’ sport scene, such as BMO Stadium, SoFi Stadium and Intuit Dome.

The locations are assigned to two dozen zones, some of which include multiple venues. The Downtown LA Zone, for example, is home to the Los Angeles Convention Center, Dodger Stadium, Crypto.com Arena and Peacock Theater. To the south, the Coliseum, BMO Stadium and Galen Center are in the Exposition Park Zone.

The Long Beach Zone is home to seven venues and four sites are in Carson.

With the Milan Cortina Olympics in the rearview, here’s a look ahead to the venues of the 2028 Summer Olympics.

La crosse will also be a sport to be played at the Inglewood stadium. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026.

Flag football makes its Olympics debut at BMO Stadium

Located adjacent to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Exposition Park venue will host flag football and lacrosse in 2028.

Flag football is set to make its Olympic debut during the Games, while lacrosse will return as a medal sport for the first time since 1908.

The 22,000-seat stadium, which opened in 2018 and serves as the home to LAFC and Angel City FC, will be called Exposition Park Stadium during LA28.

With its proximity to the Coliseum, Los Angeles’ newest open-air stadium will be part of a walkable hub during the 2028 Games.

Venice was initially left out until Councilmember Traci Park pushed for the Westside neighborhood to be included. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026.

Three Olympics events are coming to Venice

Three endurance events — the triathlon, marathon and road cycling — are set to take place in the iconic beachfront neighborhood in 2028.

Venice Boulevard will serve as both the transition area and the finish line for the triathlon, and runners and cyclists will pass through during their races.

Venice was not initially guaranteed to host any events in 2028, as it was not part of the Olympics early plans. The neighborhood was later added as a host site after pushback from LA City Councilwoman Traci Park.

The beachfront has not hosted an Olympic medal event before, but will now award some of the 2028 competition’s first medals just hours after the Opening Ceremony.

Known for its vibrant boardwalk, historic canals and lively culture, the neighborhood will attract a crowd when triathletes hit the sand on Day 1 of the 2028 Olympics.

Southern California athletes are training in Carson, hoping for a spot on Team USA in 2028, Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026.

Cycling at the Velodrome in Carson

The largest indoor velodrome in the United States, the Carson Velodrome will be home to track cycling and para track cycling. The structure was built next to the demolished 1984 Olympics velodrome site. It is the official Olympic and Paralympic training site and home to the National Track Cycling Program.

Carson also will host field hockey, archery, para archery, rugby sevens, tennis and para tennis.

From hosting World Series games and All-Star moments to serving as an exhibition venue during the 1984 Summer Olympics, Dodger Stadium is now set to welcome the world again as an official competition site for the 2028 Summer Olympics. Mekahlo Medina reports for NBC4 at 4pm on Feb. 20, 2026.

Baseball returns to the Olympics at Dodger Stadium

Dodger Stadium will host America’s pastime when it returns to the Olympics in 2028. The oldest Major League Baseball stadium on the West Coast hosted exhibition baseball games at the 1984 Olympics. The sport most recently appeared at the Tokyo Olympics, but was not part of the Paris Olympics lineup.

Dodger Stadium, MLB’s third-oldest continually used ballpark, offers scenic views from its perch north of downtown Los Angeles. The stadium’s first Opening Day was April 10, 1962.

It’s already hosted large-scale events. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026.

Beach volleyball at Alamitos Beach in Long Beach

Beach volleyball and the athletes at the zenith of the sport are celebrated in Southern California, and there’s no better place to celebrate than the coast. The even is bump, set and spiking its way to Alamitos Beach in Long Beach, which stepped up after Santa Monica declined to play host.

The venue on the western edge of Long Beach’s coastline is a temporary venue, like the sand volleyball court at Paris’ Eiffel Tower two years ago.

Alamitos Beach will host blind football in the Paralympics.

Long Beach will host 11 Olympics events and seven Paralympic events.

The iconic venue is prepping for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026.

Track and field, ceremonies at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

The most storied of all Los Angeles Olympics venues, the Coliseum in Exposition Park will host both competitions and ceremonies in 2028, and will become the first-ever venue to host events in three Olympic Games.

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, currently the home field of USC Trojans football and a previous Super Bowl host, will serve as the home of track and field during LA28.

The 77,500-seat stadium will also co-host the Opening Ceremony alongside SoFi Stadium and hold the Olympic and Paralympic Closing ceremonies.

The venue hosted track and field, equestrian and gymnastics when it made its Olympic debut in 1932. In 1984, it was the primary site for track and field events.

The stadium held the opening and closing ceremonies for both previous Olympics.

The stadium, designated as a National Historic Landmark, was built in 1923 as a memorial to those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War I.

The Long Beach Arena will be home to Olympic handball. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026.

Handball at Long Beach Arena

The Olympics will return to Long Beach when it hosts handball in 2028.

Long Beach Arena, nestled in the city’s downtown waterfront, has been a host site for NCAA men’s basketball tournament games and hosted Olympic volleyball competitions in 1984.

The venue opened in 1962, and plans have been made to give it an Olympic overhaul before LA28.

Various concerts and performances are also commonly held at the Arena, and it boasts a capacity of around 13,500 people. Long Beach Arena will host sitting volleyball for the Paralympics.

It’ll turn into a massive swimming pool for the Summer Olympics. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026.

Swimming at SoFi Stadium

The home of the NFL’s Rams and Chargers in Inglewood will be converted into the largest-ever Olympics swimming venue. The sport has been part of the Olympics since 1896 and is one of the most highly anticipated competitions.

Renderings show what the stadium in southern Los Angeles County will look like when it’s converted into a 40,000-seat swimming venue. Lucas Oil Stadium Indianapolis recently pulled off the same feat, turning what is primarily a football stadium into the site of the U.S. Swimming Trials.

Known as the 2028 Stadium, it also will co-host the Olympic Opening Ceremony with LA Memorial Coliseum in a dual-venue celebration and provide the stage for the Paralympic Opening Ceremony. A decking will be placed over the pool.

The 2028 Olympics will be the third major sporting event at SoFi Stadium in three years, preceded by the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Super Bowl, the second in the indoor-outdoor stadium’s history.

Inglewood also is home to the new Intuit Dome, which will host basketball.

The Rose Bowl will host the men’s and women’s soccer finals. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026.

Soccer at the scenic Rose Bowl in Pasadena

The site of college football’s annual Rose Bowl Game and home of the UCLA Bruins football team, the iconic Pasadena stadium will stage the 2028 Olympics’ final soccer matches.

The Rose Bowl hosted five Super Bowls, the 1994 men’s World Cup and the 1999 women’s World Cup during its century-plus history. Along with the LA Coliseum, the venue will become the second to be used in three Olympics, having hosted cycling events in 1932 and soccer in 1984.

The stadium is recognized as both a National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. It was built in 1922 and can hold up to around 90,000 fans.

It’s located right next to the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, which will host diving during LA28.

For the first time, events will be held in the Valley as Los Angeles hosts the Summer Games in 2028. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.

Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley makes its Olympics debut

In 1932 and 1984, the San Fernando Valley watched from the sidelines when Los Angeles hosted the Olympics. Not this time.

The Sepulveda Basin and Lake Balboa will share the spotlight, hosting BMX, skateboarding, pentathlon and 3-on-3 basketball.

The Valley Zone is divided into four complexes at the Sepulveda Basin Recreation area for five Olympic sports and disciplines. Complex 1 is a temporary open-air venue for BMW freestyle and skateboarding events. Complex 2 in the basin will be a temporary venue for modern pentathlon and skateboarding. Complex 3 will host 3×3 basketball, providing an octagonal viewing area for spectators. In Complex 4, BMX racers will soar over the natural terrain of the area.
