Actors Jerry Seinfeld and Julia Louis-Dreyfus shared tributes to director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele.
In a statement, Seinfeld said Reiner had a powerful influence on his career and credited him for the survival and success of “Seinfeld.” Reiner’s production company Castle Rock Entertainment produced the series co-created by Larry David.
“Next to Larry David and George Shapiro, Rob Reiner had the biggest influence on my career,” Seinfeld said in an Instagram post Monday. “Our show would have never happened without him. He saw something no one else could. When nobody at the network liked the early episodes, he saved us from cancellation. That I was working with Carl Reiner’s son, who happened to be one of the kindest people in show business, seemed unreal.
“I was naive at the time to how much his passion for us meant. Rob and Michele married right as our show was starting and they became an imprint for me of how it’s supposed to work, each one broadening the other. Their death, together, is impossibly sad.”
George Shapiro was Seinfeld’s manager and a producer on the show.
The 78-year-old Reiner, son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, was married to photographer Michele Singer Reiner, 68, since 1989. The two met while he was directing “When Harry Met Sally” and have three children together.
In an Instagram post, Louis-Dreyfus said Reiner leaves behind a significant legacy in Hollywood.
Sources told NBC News that Nick Reiner was disruptive at the party. Robert Kovacik reports for the NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025.
“My husband Brad and I had the great honor and pleasure of working with Rob and Michele Reiner often and happily in movies and television where their impact as actor, director, and producer will be everlasting,” Louis-Dreyfus said. “Even more deeply felt was their superb example of how to be an activist and a powerful voice for the environment, for justice, and for democracy. They were great American patriots, and they were so much fun. We send our condolences and love to the Reiner family.”
Reiner spoke about “Seinfeld” during a 2016 appearance on “The Howard Stern Show.” The show ran for nine seasons from 1989 to 1998.
“They said, ‘We can’t have this show. What is this show? It’s just people sitting around talking,'” Reiner said of his meeting with NBC executives. “I said, ‘Please, I promise you there’ll be stories. You can’t take this show off the air. It’s going to be one of the great shows you’ve ever had.'”
Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder in the killings of Rob, 78, and Michele Reiner, 68, whose bodies were found Sunday inside their home in Los Angeles’ Brentwood community. Nick Reiner remained in jail Tuesday and was expected to make an initial court appearance some time this week.
The deaths of Rob Reiner, a celebrated director whose long list of successful films included “When Harry Met Sally…,” “A Few Good Men” and “This Is Spinal Tap,” and Michele Reiner, a talent photographer and producer, stunned the Hollywood community and led to an outpouring of tributes from entertainment industry colleagues, political figures and more.
