A criminal investigation was underway in Santa Barbara Friday after a high school student was found with a weapon on campus, Santa Barbara police said.
A staff member at Santa Barbara High School spotted the armed student and reported it to authorities. As officers with the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to the school at around 10 a.m., the school staff was able to “safely isolate the student and retrieve the weapon.”
There was a second scare at the same school later in the day when school officials learned another student may have a weapon.
As the school administrator placed the school into “hold” status, requiring students to remain in their classrooms, police officers launched another investigation and determined the second student did not have a weapon.
The incident involving the student with a weapon appears to be an isolated incident, and there were no safety threats at school, police said.
