
A suspected DUI driver killed one pedestrian and injured another overnight in Newport Beach, according to law enforcement.
Officers were called to the area of 24th Street and Newport Boulevard just after 2 a.m. Saturday for a report of a car that hit two pedestrians. One pedestrian died at the scene and the second pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, the Newport Beach Police Department said.
The driver stayed at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. That individual’s name was not released.
Authorities did not specify the severity of the surviving victim’s injuries. Details on the pedestrian who died, such as their gender, age and name, were not released.
The investigation is ongoing.
