Evening commuters traveling through the San Fernando Valley via the 101 and 405 freeways had to endure traffic mess Monday after a fire broke out on a flatbed truck.

The vehicle, which was carrying a load of hay, was fully engulfed in flames when the blaze was first reported at around 3:50 p.m. on the 405 Freeway before the 101 Freeway connector.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire, but it still spewed out large volumes of smoke, creating hazardous conditions for drivers.

The California Highway Patrol eventually shut down the northbound 101 Freeway at Ventura Boulevard as the truck blocked the two lanes of the connector.

Officials warned drivers may experience delays of up to one hour as crews mop up the scene.

No one was injured during the incident.
