Even if you didn’t win the latest California Lottery, the state might still owe you money!
The Orange County Auditor-Controller’s Office, state and local leaders announced Wednesday a new way for residents to access forgotten money.
The website was created as a courtesy to help Orange County residents, businesses, and non-profits locate unclaimed money.
“Across California, there’s over 15 billion unclaimed funds held by the state controller’s office until the owner claims it. Here in Orange County, there’s over $700 million just sitting here waiting for individuals, businesses, and residents to claim these funds,” said Andrew Hamilton, Orange County Controller.
That’s hundreds of millions of dollars, they say could help people in Orange County pay bills, support their children’s education, and invest in local businesses.
The website is free and requires no sign-up. The only thing users need to access the portal is an address and identification, according to officials.
More information can be found on the city’s website.
