Video showed a car racing past at least two planes and workers Monday at high speed on a taxiway in an unusual sight at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana.
The driver in a white sedan was a contract security guard assigned to an airfield security checkpoint, airport officials said in a statement. The driver was having some type of medical emergency, authorities said.
Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded an detained the driver. The man was evaluated by members of the Orange County Fire Authority and hospitalized.
Details about the possible medical emergency were not immediately available.
Taxiways connect runways, used for takeoffs and landings, and provide routes for planes to airport gates, terminals and hangars. There was no disruptions to airport operations, authorities said.
