Crowds are flocking to Dana Point after the winter storm that brought days of heavy rain to Southern California formed a waterfall.
Spectators taking advantage of the stunning sight headed to Harbor Drive, just across the marina, to enjoy the waterfall. The gushing water splits in two due to a rock, making for a picturesque scene in Orange County.
“We’ve been to Niagara, Rainbow Falls, and everything in Yosemite, but this one is awesome,” said a man named Ronnie, who was visiting from San Diego. “And I know it’s not permanent, but it’s special today.”
The waterfall appears after the region gets heavy rain, so the last few days provided perfect conditions for it to form.
“This is beautiful for this area because it’s not a natural wonder of everyday life,” said Rene Hansaker, who lives in Perris. “This is just once a year, during the rainy season. And it’s perfect.”
However beautiful, the waterfall is made of suburban runoff from the community above the cliff, so it isn’t necessarily clean. The public should refrain from drinking from the waterfall or standing under it.
