A driver and her passenger were killed this morning when the car the woman was driving hit the center divider then veered off the 60 Freeway and into the parking lot of a business in Jurupa Valley.

The crash was reported at 4:50 a.m. on the eastbound side of the freeway west of Country Village Road, according to the California Highway Patrol Officer Javier Navarro, who said the first report from the scene indicated there was a body in lanes.

Officers learned a car hit and careened off the center divider, ejecting a man who was a passenger, Navarro said. The man, whose body landed in eastbound lanes, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car crossed all eastbound lanes and went down an embankment, landing on or next to a box truck in a parking lot at 3800 Wabash Drive, the officer said.

The woman who was driving was found inside the car and was also pronounced dead at the scene, Navarro said.

The CHP shut down all but the HOV lane of the eastbound 60 Freeway in the area.

All lanes were reopened about 7 a.m.
