Two Southern California women were indicted for allegedly following an immigration agent home and livestreaming his home address on social media, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Friday.
Federal authorities alleged the two women, as well as another woman from Colorado, followed the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent home as he was leaving the Civic Center in downtown Los Angeles to return home.
They are then accused of livestreaming the pursuit of the victim and giving directions to the agent’s private residence on their Instagram accounts. Once they reached the agent’s home, they began shouting to bystanders – and livestreaming – that their “neighbor is ICE,” according to the statement from the DOJ.
The women also allegedly shared the home address on social media and encourage other users to “come on down.”
Sandra Carmona Samane, 25, of Panorama City was scheduled to appear in court Oct. 9 after being taken into federal custody and posting a $5,000 bond, officials said.
Officials were trying to locate Cynthia Raygoza, 37, of Riverside as of Friday.
Another woman from Colorado, Ashleigh Brown,38, was also indicted on the same charges. Brown is also facing an allegation of assaulting a federal officer, according to the Justice Department.
If convicted, the women would face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for each count.
Homeland Security Investigations is investigating this matter, according to the DOJ.
Samane’s attorney Robert Bernstein told NBC Los Angeles that the indictment is “merely an unproven allegation.”
“Because Ms. Carmona has not yet been arraigned, we have not had the opportunity to review the government’s case or evidence. I can state, however, that I will zealously defend my client,” Bernstein said in a statement.
Brown’s attorney did not respond to NBCLA’s request for comments as of Friday.
